Hunter Notes

Monster Characteristics:
Bird wyverns that live in herds at the heart of the Ruins of Wyveria. Porkeplumes are extremely timid and will protect themselves against threats by puffing out the bristles on their heads. If the situation escalates, a member of the herd will slam into the foe with its bristles, giving the other members a window to escape. The head bristles can be used as bleeding pods for the Slinger.

Ecology & Habitat

Porkeplume are most commonly encountered in the Ruins of Wyveria, though during the season of Plenty they may also be found roaming the Iceshard Cliffs. Despite their small size and timid disposition, they are remarkably fast, capable of outrunning even a sprinting hunter. They are herbivorous, often seen feeding on Hot Peppers? or grass for sustenance, and at times will simply sit in the snow to conserve energy.

Physiology

Their bodies are covered in thick white fur, with a paler brownish hue along the underside and a distinctive patch of dark orange fluff crowning the back of the head. From this tuft emerge their signature head spikes, which display a striking banded pattern: beginning at the base in white, shifting to orange, then back to white, and finally ending in orange at the tip. The tips themselves are ribbed, with additional stair-like ridges that further emphasize their unusual appearance. These spikes normally lie flat, but flare outward when the creature feels threatened. Porkeplume have dark brown faces, claws, and feet, each hand bearing three claws and a thumb-like digit, while the feet possess three claws and a raised dewclaw. Their eyes are a simple brown with round black pupils, and their mouths appear toothless. A small, slightly upturned tail completes their stout form.

Attacks & Abilities

Though timid by nature, Porkeplume will defend themselves when cornered. They flare their head spikes and lunge forward in powerful headbutts, using their horns as both intimidation and weapon. Hunters can obtain Bleeding Pods by firing their Hook Slinger at the bristles atop their heads; however, once damaged in this way, the monsters typically flee, abandoning both their head tuft and spikes.
