Monster Characteristics:
Leviathans whose bodies are covered with beautiful scales and sharp blades. As a pack, they work together to surround prey, but since most Piragill are too timid to make the kill, they usually wait for an opening and lunge all at once. Don't underestimate them; on water, their speed is unmatched, and those blades will make mincemeat of a hunter that wanders too close.

Ecology & Habitat

Piragill inhabit the waterways of the Scarlet Forest, where their streamlined bodies make them formidable swimmers. Though primarily aquatic, they come ashore to rest and are most active in packs during the downpour season. They are aggressive toward both hunters and large monsters, but their attacks are almost always carried out in groups, as individuals are prone to fleeing due to a cowardice nature.

Physiology

Piragill display vibrant, shifting colouration: greenish-blue scales along the back fade into bands of light blue, deep blue-green, and finally a pale, almost white underside. Dull red spines line the back from head to tail, connected by faint webbing. Their eyes are striking—blue with green irises surrounding oval black pupils. Each leg ends in webbed feet with four small claws, aiding in propulsion through water. The mouth is a curved beak concealing sharp canine teeth, while a single opening behind each jaw is believed to function as gills. Their slender, hydrodynamic build and axe-like tail tips further enhance their swimming speed.

Attacks & Abilities

Piragill hunt cooperatively, lunging with snapping bites to overwhelm prey. Packs often harry larger foes through repeated strikes, retreating when the risk becomes too great. On land, they are far less agile, but in water their coordinated movements and speed make them especially dangerous.
