Hunter Notes

Monster Characteristics:
Leviathans with distinct snouts that live near water. If the water is deep enough, a Gajios will stay submerged with only the tip of its nose exposed, waiting for prey to wander by. You can obtain bleeding pods with the Hook Slinger—but not without a fight.

Ecology & Habitat

The Gajios primarily inhabit the murky waters of the Windward Plains, but also in the cleaner waters of the Scarlet Forest. They are ambush predators, waiting submerged to strike unsuspecting prey. Their main food source is Dalthydon, which they hunt both in water and on land. Hunters have observed them killing prey and dragging it by the neck, stopping elsewhere to feed.

Physiology

The Gajios are crocodile-like in appearance, with greenish-brown scales that provide camouflage and grey underbellies. Their canine teeth are visible even when the mouth is closed, making them incapable of chewing. Their nostrils sit on top of their heads, allowing them to breathe while submerged. They have yellow eyes with black slit pupils. All four of their main limbs are flippers with clawed ends, and their sawhorn resemble sawblades with spikes along either side. This can be broken of by Hunters with the Hook Slinger to obtain 3 Bleeding Pods. On land, they move in an S-shaped slither.

Attacks & Abilities

Gajios attack Dalthydon by targeting the throat to kill quickly. They gulp down large pieces of meat, but if the prey struggles, they bite and spin to tear off chunks of the carcass.
