Ceratonoth are herd-dwelling herbivores native to the Windward Plains. Groups are typically led by a single dominant male, accompanied by several females. When threatened, the male rears onto its hind legs and bellows before retreating, guiding the herd to safety. They face numerous predators, including Bulaqchi and hunters seeking raw meat. Sereios have even been observed hurling them at hunters as improvised projectiles. While resting, small endemic lifeforms known as Nothpeckers perch on their backs, feeding on old scales in exchange for the protection of the herd.
Males are larger, with worn dark-brown scales and pronounced dorsal spikes, while females are smaller with smoother, more vibrant brown colouration and no back spines. Both sexes possess beak-like mouths lacking visible teeth, as well as small round eyes. Each foot ends in five claws, and the hindquarters are lined with scale-like plates that fan out along the tail. During Sandtide storms, the males’ back spikes are known to attract lightning strikes, posing an additional hazard in their environment.
Though not aggressive by nature, Ceratonoth rely on their size and herd structure for defense. The dominant male will attempt to distract threats with its roar and imposing stance before leading the group to safety. Their herd behavior, combined with their natural resilience, allows them to survive in a region shared with numerous predators.
