Monster Characteristics:
Rathian are medium-sized flying wyverns that inhabit temperate regions. These carnivorous beasts sit at the top of the food chain. Known as "Queens of the Land," they have exceptionally strong legs for flying wyverns and excel at hunting on the ground, making them formidable hunters both in the air and on land. Hunting on the ground has likely caused their scales to turn green, helping them to camouflage themselves in foliage. The poison glands on their backs and tails secrete a venom that is then released through hollow spikes, helping them counter many threats. The powerful fireballs they breathe strike fear into many creatures. The large spikes protruding from their jaws are used to feed chewed food to their young. When raising offspring, even when co-parenting with a Rathalos, the responsibility for finding food falls to the Rathian.
